translation is a continuation of the original translation by EuskalGNU
recovered from Audacity's GitHub. That partial translation was made
under the supervision of the Basque Government's language department.<br></div><div><br></div>For
lexical decisions not covered in the original translation we attempted
to always follow established conventions in the fields of professional
sound, physics and music.<br></div><br></div>This translation can be given the code 'eu_ES' as suggested and 'eu' would fit as well.<br><br></div>Regardless
of the code given to this translation, we would like to share with you
our concern about distributing Xabier Aramendi's translation as 'eu'.<br><br></div></div>Aramendi's
translation contains words like 'hotslodi' 'argilitza', 'itsustura' and
others. These words don't appear in any Basque dictionary, corpus, or
any text except for translations made by Xabier Aramendi himself. (links
bellow).<br><br></div>Aramendi randomly replaces Basque words of Latin
origin, frequent in science, with words invented by himself and used
only by himself. Basque speakers don't know or use Aramendi's words.<br><br>He
replaced words like espektro and distortsio. They come from Latin and
belong to Basque as much as spectrum and distortion belong to English,
they appear in every dictionary, in university texts, in press...<br></div><br><div>Aramendi's
constructed replacements for Basque words of Latin origin are enough
for native Basque speakers not to understand essential parts of the
information expressed in the resulting language, and there's no
dictionary one could check. <br><br>Distributing
Aramendi's work under the 'eu' code would confuse users that expect a
translation to Basque and we recommend to move Xabier Aramendi's
translation to eu_XA.<br><br>XA is a reserved code in the ISO standard
and it can be used for purposes not covered by geographical codes. This
would benefit not only Basque users of Audacity but also translators of
other projects that rely on translation memories.<br></div><br></div><div>LINKS<br><br></div><div>[Ez nago nire ordenagailuan orain, hiztegi eta korpusen zerrenda bat da.]<br></div><div><br></div><div>Osoitz<br></div><div><br></div></div><div class="gmail_extra"><br><div class="gmail_quote">Osoitz E<span dir="ltr"><<a href="mailto:oelkoro@gmail.com" target="_blank">oelkoro@gmail.com</a>></span> igorleak hau idatzi zuen (2017(e)ko uztaila 18 13:46):<br><blockquote class="gmail_quote" style="margin:0 0 0 .8ex;border-left:1px #ccc solid;padding-left:1ex"><div dir="ltr"><div><div><div><span class="">> Uste dut egokiagoa zatekeela egungo itzulpenari 'eu_XA' kodea ematea<br><br></span>Telegram taldean berdina esan da.
